Hi Katie,
The swim is longer than the standard sprint distance. The current in the Rock River is going to give you a significant assist and that’s why we went with the longer distance. We had really fast swim times last year and everyone completed the swim, including many first-timers.
We hope to see you at the race!

Hi!
Can I do the youth tri alongside my daughter? She is only 6, but really wants to do it and she is very fit and strong (gymnast).
Thanks!

Is the river cold enough to need a wetsuit?

Will there be rinse pools for sand and dirt after the swim, or do we need to bring and extra bottle to rinse our feet?

Hi Tara,
Unfortunately you can’t participate in the Youth tri with your daughter as it would present a safety issue. Hopefully she’ll do the race with you (and all of us) cheering her on!
Cheers!

The river temp is hovering around 70 degrees and the race is wetsuit legal. Personal preference and how cold you get in the water should dictate if you want to wear a wetsuit. Last year, most participants did wear a wetsuit.
Cheers!

Hi-
Can we park an RV at the park overnight on Friday? It’s 32′.
We were there last year and one of the organizers we talked to said he would looking into RV parking for this year.
Thanks.

Is there a map of the run and swim? Are there 2 seperate transition areas?
Brooke
June 28th, 2011
Hi Kitty-
A few questions regarding the tri this weekend.
1) When is the transition area open to drop off the bikes? Do people drop them off on Friday night or just bring them with them on Saturday morning?
2) What time is the transition area open on Saturday?
3) Where and at what times can you pick up the packet on Saturday morning?
4) I am coming from out of town. Where does the race start, and where should I park my car? I understand the run portion starts at ends at Traxler Park, but didn’t know if that’s the starting point of the other events too.
Thanks for your help with these questions!

HI Brooke,
Transition will open at 5 am.

June 28th, 2011
Hi Brian,
The swim is .5 mile from the North Traxler Boat Launch to the exit in front of the Aqua Jays stands.
The run route is on the maps page. You’ll leave Traxler Park, run up Main St thru the Farmer’s Market, all the way to Holmes and go left. You’ll wind thru the historic streets of Courthouse Hill and back down to Main St to return to Traxler Park. Don’t forget to run the loop in the park and smile when you finish!
See you Saturday!

I forgot to add Brian, there is one transition. We will walk the .5 mile to the swim start which will be a time trial start…namely one athlete at a time jumping into the river.

Hi Maggie,
Unfortunately you can not park at Traxler Park overnight as it’s against city ordinance. We have permission for just race staff to stay overnight for security purposes.

Hi Cindy,
We will provide you with a swim cap which will be mandatory for you to wear. We have nice bright red caps for all participants!
Thanks for asking!

Is the current strong? My concern is getting out of the water. How do we know where to turn and head out of the water — don’t want to keep going downstream.
kittycole
June 30th, 2011
Hi Cindy!
The current is strong but manageable. At the swim out we’ll have volunteers in the water to assist you. There are steps (4 I think) right in front of the bleachers. We’ll have boats in the water to prevent you from going downstream. We’ll also have buoy(s) to guide you.
See you Saturday!
